The next phase of works to repair West Bay’s harbour walls are to start next Monday (30 March).

For eight weeks, re-pointing of the masonry sections of walls A and wall B and repairs to the damaged walkway in front of the forecourt will take place.

This follows the successful completion of phase one repairs to harbour wall B last year and prepares the site for phase two reinforcement work to both walls - due to get underway in the autumn.

Dorset Council’s Cabinet member for Place services, Cllr Jon Andrews, said: “I’m delighted that this next stage of works to enhance and repair the West Bay harbour walls can get underway.

“This next set of works will cause minimal disruption as they are mostly being done from a pontoon on the waterfront. We appreciate that they are taking place over Easter, but this is a necessity for our work programme.

“We thank residents, businesses and visitors for their patience as we carry out these essential repairs, which are vital to ensuring the long-term stability of the harbour walls.”

During the works, the pavement along the top of Wall A (between the roundabout to The Mound) will largely remain open but will require some short-term closures for moving equipment.

Pedestrians will still be able to use the pavement on the opposite side of the road.  Access to the kiosks will be unaffected during these works.

Scaffolding is still in place to prepare for the final phase 2 of the works that will start in the autumn. The walkway along Wall B remains closed to the public while the council repairs utilities.

The final phase of works will see the installation of a cofferdam and sheet piling work to install long-term structural reinforcement to the walls.

More details on this programme of works will be released later this year.
