Work taking place at Lyme Regis beach and The Cobb

Work is taking place to replenish the beach at Lyme Regis and to repair a void on The Cobb.

The annual reprofiling of the sandy front beach has begun and is expected to be completed by 25 March.

A safety fence has been erected on the beach to protect the public while the works take place.

The works are starting earlier than usual this year because storms have eroded the beach.

Earthmoving will start on Wednesday (18 March) and is expected to finish by 23 March. Some shingle beach reprofiling may follow.

The fencing is expected to be removed by 25 March.

At the same time, repair works at the base of The Cobb are also taking place.

These void repairs are to replace temporary measures installed last November. These temporary measures have worked well during recent storms.

Access to Cobb buildings, businesses and harbour activities remain open, however, for safety reasons, access beyond the work compound along the southern arm of The Cobb will be restricted during working hours only. Outside working hours, normal public access arrangements continue.

Work on The Cobb is expected to finish on Friday (20 March), weather permitting.
