Overview

You need to request permission to suspend or temporarily relocate a bus stop in Dorset when it is going to be affected by works or events.

We (Dorset Council) do not formally suspend bus stops, we notify the bus operators serving the stop and they ensure alternative arrangements are put in place.

Charges

We do not charge for authorising bus stop closures.

How to apply

We need at least three working days' notice before the suspension is due to be introduced.

Check the location of the bus stop to be suspended and click on a bus stop icon to see more details.

We need to know:

  • the bus stop name, NaPTAN code and direction
  • dates, times and duration when the stop will be suspended
  • a very brief description of the activity
  • illustrative plans of the activity (if available)
  • contact details for further enquiries

You'll need to send requests via email.

If bus stop suspension is approved

You may be required to:

  • cover over bus stop signage and place relevant notices on site where possible, to inform and direct public transport users
  • place out advance warning information if deemed appropriate
  • arrange and place temporary bus stop signs if this is agreed and it is safe to do so
