Overview
As well as having a taxi vehicle driver's licence, your vehicle must also be licensed to work within the Dorset Council area.
Private hire vehicles
A private hire vehicle licence will cost £200.
Hackney carriages
The Dorset Council area is split into 2 taxi zones:
Weymouth and Portland Zone (yellow plates)
Non Weymouth Zone (green plates)
You will need a separate licence to work within each zone.
The cost for each zone is:
- £200 for a Non Weymouth Zone licence
- £260 (£240 for renewing a licence) for a Weymouth and Portland Zone licence
