We’re upgrading the signal equipment at the Leigh Road junction with St John’s Hill and Avenue Road in Wimborne.

The existing traffic signal equipment is obsolete, experiencing frequent faults and is increasingly difficult to maintain. As part of our ongoing traffic signal refurbishment programme, we’ll be replacing the ageing infrastructure at this location and bringing the site up to current standards.

The refurbishment will:

  • ensure the junction meets all relevant specifications, safety standards, and legislative requirements
  • implement modern traffic signal technology, including energy-efficient LED signal heads, controllers, and connectivity for remote monitoring
  • improve traffic flow efficiency and reduce congestion for all road users, including vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians
  • enhance pedestrian crossing facilities, including tactile paving and tactile cones for visually impaired users
  • reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs through modern equipment and design

What happens next

Work is scheduled to start on Monday 8 February and take around 9 weeks to complete. To minimise disruption due to the junction proximity to the First School, we’ve maximised the use of school holidays within our work programme.

Further details of the traffic management arrangements will be added to this page nearer the time.
