If you're aged 40 to 74, haven't had a health check in the last five years, and don't have a pre-existing health condition, you may be eligible for a free NHS Health Check.
An NHS Health Check is a free check-up of your cardiovascular health. It helps identify whether you’re at higher risk of developing certain health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease or stroke.
This programme is aimed at 40 to 74 year olds, as this is the ideal time to spot early signs of these conditions. Research shows that even small lifestyle changes can make a big difference to your long-term health.
The check gives you a clearer picture of your health and helps you take steps to reduce your risk in the future.
What to expect during your NHS Health Check
No preparation is needed, and the check takes no more than 30 minutes.
You’ll be asked some simple questions about your family’s health history and your lifestyle choices. Your height, weight and blood pressure will be measured, and you’ll receive a free cholesterol check. These results help assess your risk of cardiovascular disease over the next ten years.
After your check, you’ll receive personalised advice on how to lower your risk, including simple changes to your diet, activity levels, or habits which can significantly reduce your chances of developing serious health problems. You may also be referred for further tests with your GP.
